Family Files

Family Files contain various resources including newspaper clippings, correspondence, previous genealogy research and more! These files rarely contain primary source documents or vital records (no birth, death, marriage certificates), but are often a good starting point when conducting research on individuals and families within Cortland County and are available for in-person research at the Kellogg Research Center.

If you would like to contact CCHS about what might be in a certain family file, please contact us at info@cortlandhistory.org or submit a request using the link below. There is a $10 fee per surname to perform a family file check and includes one scan of a relevant document from the file, as well as a summary of whether the provided names appear and what kinds of documents are included. Further research services, including additional scanning from the family files, are provided for $28/hour.
